My Trip Log app for iPhone and iPad
Trip Log is a tool designed to keep track of where youve been. This is great for tourists exploring a new city and looking for a record of your travels. Its especially useful for runners, hikers, and cyclists as a way of keeping track of the path youve taken.
The app can be set to run in the background, allowing you to use other apps (music, camera, etc) at the same time.
FEATURES:
* Create and store as many trips as you want
* Zoom in and out on the map of your trips
* Configure the app to update your location in the background
* Specify how often location is updated
* Add notes for any point along the way
* Review address information for each location
* Email a record of your trip, including addresses and a screenshot
* Export trips in GPX format via email
* View cumulative and direct distances over the span of each trip
* Add/Remove points within your trip
Note: Continued use of GPS running in the background can dramatically decrease battery life.
Pros and cons of My Trip Log app for iPhone and iPad
My Trip Log app good for
It occurred to me that awhile ago, everyone was complaining the iOS devices were tracking their every move. From time to time, I would find that _convenient_ and this app does that, and it mostly does it well.
It would not hurt at all if there were a small manual explaining what to do to NOT accidentally turn it off. It seems way too easy to turn off.
It would also be nice if the preferences were scaled in both minutes and hours, and if the results were configurable for kilometers or miles.
Bottom line, if you can avoid accidentally turning it off, its just great for recording the route you took from _here_ to _there_, how long it too, and by inference, if there was a better path.
Id prefer to give it three and a half stars but lets round up, if only because the price is right.
Overall, the application did exactly what I wanted it to do - which was log points that I could then transcribe onto a trail map at a later date. The GPS is quite accurate, although if you go to fast (or set to slow a ping rate) the trail is off by a bit. I found simply setting a faster ping addressed this well enough.
Another unfortunate drawback: the program has a tendency to stop logging points if it cannot get cell service, under some additional circumstances. This is not an issue exclusive to this program, as far as I know it happens amongst others with enough frequency to not reflect overly poorly on the publisher. I have identified no cause, but again, a simple fix could be to go more slowly and adjust the ping rate.
The program is more than satisfactory, as it had met my needs, and the issues are not enough to condemn it. Hopefully future updates may fix these problems. This program is worth the reasonable price.
Some bad moments
No instructions, cant post previous trips and cant figure out how to post new ones except for starting point.
Forget it move on. You cant drop pins on the map to log anything.
Does not work as advertised. Should have read other reviews. Non responsive support.
This app is awesome for people who travel. It runs in the background and keeps track of all the different places youve been on your trip using gps. Its free try it out!
Other location apps are burdened with too many features and too little privacy. This app strikes a simple and elegant balance. You should definitely give it a try!
I want to create running routes. This program will record where youve been. No one runs with an iPad so please take anything to do with running out of the description.
